The Monkey’s Clever Trick: A Story of Wits Over Strength
Animals Discuss Their Lion Troubles
The Monkey’s Clever Trick: Once upon a time, a group of animals gathered near the shore of a lake deep in the jungle. They were talking about the lion, who had been causing trouble for everyone. The zebra mentioned how the lion often scared his family by roaring loudly while they were sleeping. The elephant shared that the lion frequently bothered him by putting his arms in his trunk, which was very uncomfortable. The turtle added that the lion had once stepped on his back and demanded to be carried around.
The Monkey’s Bold Claim
As the animals discussed their problems, a monkey jumped down from the trees. He confidently said, “Why are you all so afraid of the lion? He’s just a dumb animal! I ride on his back whenever I feel like it.” The other animals burst out laughing. The elephant, astonished, replied, “Monkey, are you crazy? There’s no way the lion would let you ride on his back!”
The monkey insisted, “I’ll prove it! I’ll go to the big Banyan tree in the jungle. When the lion comes, send him to me, and I will return riding on his back!”

The Lion’s Anger
Meanwhile, the lion woke up from his nap feeling bored and decided to prank the animals by scaring them. As he approached the lake, the animals were still laughing from the monkey’s claim. Angrily, the lion roared, and the laughter stopped immediately.
The elephant said, “We’re laughing because the monkey said he rides on your back! He also said that you are afraid of him!”
Enraged, the lion roared, “What nonsense! I am the king of the jungle! Where is that monkey? I’ll teach him a lesson!”
The animals pointed toward the big Banyan tree where the monkey lived. The lion rushed there, determined to confront the monkey.
The Monkey’s Clever Plan
When the lion arrived at the Banyan tree, he called out, “Hey, monkey! Come out and face me!” The monkey, sitting high in the tree, calmly replied, “Oh mighty lion, why are you angry?”
The lion growled, “The animals say you told them that I am afraid of you and that I give you rides on my back!”
The monkey replied, “No sir, I said the opposite. They must have misheard me.”
The lion, wanting to clear his name, ordered the monkey to come with him to the lake and tell the other animals the truth. The monkey agreed, and they began walking together.
The Ride on the Lion’s Back
As they walked, the monkey suddenly cried out, “Oh no! There’s a thorn in my foot. I can’t walk anymore.”
The lion, eager to prove himself, said, “No, you must come with me. I’ll carry you on my back.” The monkey agreed, and the lion allowed the monkey to climb onto his back. As they continued walking, the monkey complained again, “There are too many flies! I’m losing my balance.”
The lion picked up a branch from a tree to swat the flies while carrying the monkey.
The Monkey’s Trick
As they neared the lake, the monkey suddenly sat upright and began shouting, “Here we are!” He started hitting the lion with the branch, causing the lion to panic and run wildly past the other animals.
Seeing the lion’s embarrassment, the monkey quickly leaped off the lion’s back and onto a nearby tree. All the animals started laughing at the lion’s humiliation. Realizing he had been tricked, the lion was deeply embarrassed and never returned to that part of the jungle again.
Moral of the Story
Cleverness trumps over strength.
