A Poor Farmer’s Struggle
Kids Stories in Bedtime: Once in a village, there lived a poor farmer with his family. Due to a lack of rain, no harvest took place, leading to widespread poverty. Many villagers left in search of a better life, but the farmer was reluctant to leave the land where his ancestors had lived. However, his wife convinced him to seek a job in the city, as their family was suffering from hunger.
An Unexpected Encounter
On his journey to the city, the farmer came across a large pit where a man, a monkey, a tiger, and a snake were trapped. They were all desperately trying to escape. Each of them pleaded with the farmer, saying, “Please save us! We will be forever grateful and help you in return.”
Feeling sympathetic, the farmer decided to help them out of the pit and continued his employment search. Despite searching from dawn to dusk, he couldn’t find a job and decided to return home.

A Monkey’s Generous Gift
As the farmer crossed the pit again, he heard a voice calling him. Looking around, he saw the monkey sitting on a tree with a bunch of grapes. The monkey noticed the farmer’s hunger and offered him the grapes. Although the farmer was initially hesitant, the monkey urged him to accept the gift, saying, “Think of me as your friend.”
The farmer enjoyed the grapes and thanked the monkey before continuing on his way.
The Tiger’s Unexpected Offer
Soon after, the tiger appeared and offered the farmer gold and diamonds, saying, “I understand your poverty. Take whatever you need.” Grateful but uncertain of how to use the jewels, the farmer decided to visit the man he had previously helped out of the pit. The man was a jeweler and recognized the jewels as belonging to the royal family.
The Jeweler’s Betrayal
The jeweler, seeing an opportunity to gain favor with the king, reported the farmer as a thief. The farmer was arrested and imprisoned. As he languished in jail, he lamented the lack of gratitude from the man compared to the monkey and the tiger.
A Snake’s Promise
Desperate, the farmer remembered the snake’s promise. He thought of the snake, who soon appeared and offered a plan. “I will bite the queen, and you will be able to cure her with just your touch,” said the snake. Following the plan, the snake bit the queen. Despite the efforts of royal doctors, the queen remained ill.
The Queen’s Cure and the Farmer’s Redemption
The farmer sent word that he could cure the queen. The king summoned him, and the farmer touched the queen’s feet, curing her instantly. The king was pleased and had the jeweler punished for his betrayal. In gratitude, the king awarded the farmer with gold and precious gems.
The Moral of the Story
Moral: Being ungrateful to someone who has helped you is the worst kind of wrongdoing. Always show gratitude and never be ungrateful.
