The Grasshopper and the Ants: A Tale of Hard Work and Laziness
Summer Days in the Forest
Bedtime Stories for Kids: Once upon a time, in the warmth of summer, the animals, birds, and insects of the forest were enjoying the season. Food was abundant, and everyone was making the most of it. Among them was a lazy grasshopper, spending his days eating roots, playing his violin, and singing happily under a tree.
“Oh, what a lovely day! La la la, play and sing along with my violin!”
As he finished his song, the grasshopper noticed a noise. Curious, he jumped onto a branch to see where it was coming from. To his surprise, he saw a trail of ants marching in formation, carrying seeds and dry fruits back to their nests.

The Grasshopper Questions the Ants
The grasshopper watched in confusion as the ants disappeared into the distance. “I never understand these ants. They’re always working!” he thought. Just then, an ant carrying a large seed passed by him and dropped it to rest.
The grasshopper, with a puzzled look, asked, “Are you moving somewhere? Is there a disaster coming? Why are you working so hard?”
The ant replied, “We are storing food for the winter.”
The grasshopper laughed, “Winter? But it’s still summer! Why the rush? Have fun while you can!”
The ant looked at him sternly, “And what will you eat in winter?”
The grasshopper shrugged, “I’ll figure it out when the time comes. There’s plenty of food now.”
Without further conversation, the ant resumed carrying his seed, leaving the grasshopper to continue his carefree life.
The Grasshopper’s Lazy Summer
Throughout the summer, the ants tirelessly gathered food for the cold months ahead, while the grasshopper continued to play, eat, and sing. “Oh, what a lovely day! La la la, play and sing along with my violin!” he would chant, never thinking of the future.
But as the days grew shorter and colder, the ants’ work continued, while the grasshopper remained idle, enjoying the last of the warm weather.
Winter Arrives
One morning, the forest was blanketed in snow. The ants, safe in their nests, had plenty of food stored to survive the harsh winter. But the grasshopper was not so fortunate. For days, he had nothing to eat, and he was weak from hunger. Shivering in the cold, he thought back to the summer and regretted his laziness.
Desperate, he remembered the ant who had worked so hard. “Will the ants help me now?” he wondered. With great effort, the grasshopper stumbled through the snow toward the ants’ nest.
The Grasshopper Seeks Help
Reaching the nest, the grasshopper called out, “Is anyone there? Please help me!” From inside, he heard the ants talking.
The queen ant asked, “Who is seeking help?”
One of the worker ants replied, “It’s the lazy grasshopper who played and sang all summer long. He is hungry and cold, my queen.”
The wise queen responded, “Anyone who comes to our doorstep for help should not be turned away.”
The ants opened the door and found the grasshopper lying in the snow, weak and helpless. They carried him inside, offering him food and warmth.
A Lesson Learned
Revived by their kindness, the grasshopper thanked the ants and spoke to the one he had met in the summer. “I was unfair to you. While you worked, I played. You warned me, but I didn’t listen. I regret my actions.”
The ant replied, “This should be a lesson for you. We all like to have fun, but we also need to prepare for the future. If we hadn’t stored food, we could be starving like you.”
After spending some time recovering in the ants’ nest, the grasshopper was healthy again. Before leaving, the ants gave him some food for the journey.
“Thank you for saving my life,” the grasshopper said. “I will never forget this, and I will never be lazy again.”
The ants smiled, and the queen suggested, “Perhaps, next summer, you can take music lessons and bring joy to the animals with your violin.”
The grasshopper chuckled, “Maybe I will!”
Moral of the Story
Hard work and planning for the future lead to success, while laziness brings regret.
